The Adventures of Priscilla / Queen of the Desert in Helsinki City Theatre

Kuva
Right of the bat, I have to admit that I haven't seen the original movie that the musical is based on. But when I heard about the musical in Helsinki City Theatre, I bought the ticket immediately they go on sale. I managed to get a good seat at the preview for myself as a Christmas present last year.  No it was finally time to enjoy the gift!  Helsinki city theatre The theatre is the largest professional theater in Finland.   The theater is located in a very beautiful location on the shore of Eläintarhanlahti (Zoo's bay), with good transport links. The building was designed by architect Timo Penttilä. The building was completed 55 years ago, but I think it's still stylish. But no back to the musical! The production is done big and well. Samuel Harjanne, a number one musical director in Finland is responssible for directing. A good job has been done with the casting. Starring Lauri Mikkola, ClarissaJäärni and Niki Rautén as drag queens traveling through the Aus...

Art home Kirpilä

Kuva
Art home Kirpilä is one of my favourite places to visit in Helsinki. It's located Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu 7, 6th floor. English webpages: https://taidekotikirpila.fi/en/    The gallery is apartment of late art collector Juhani Kirpilä, who founded his home and art for the Finnish Cultural Found. The condition af the will was to keep the space home like and let everyone enjoy the art collected by Kirpilä for free. The visit should be planned in advance as the art home is only open on wednesdays from 14 to 18 and sundays from 12 to 16. Free guided tours (for example queer quidences) on Wed 14.30 and Sun 12.30. Kirpilä (1931–1988) was gay and delicious snacks related to his life  have been left in the library.       My favourite room in art home Kirpilä. The whole huge functional apartment is awesome, but this bright room with its large bay window is my favorite.           Small snacks from the collection       ...

We speak gay

Kuva
We speak gay is Finnish community that I like a lot! It's for comapanies and events wich are committed to HBTQL+ communication and treat their employees, customers and guests equally and with respect. When ever I see this sign in the place I am visiting, I feel welcome and delighted. For example, this sign is depicted on the door of my home golf course club (Tuusula golf club).   Althought it is possible to travel safely in Finland as an member of a sexual minority, it is  nice that we have service providers who have worked hard to take minorities into account. I also prefer to spend my pink money on these companies.    Explore we speak gay community: https://www.gaytravelfinland.com/wespeakgaycommunity/

Helsinki Pride park party 2022

Kuva
The first live park party after pandemia felt like a true party of love! Castle of the President of Finland President's spouse Jenni Haukio was protector of Pride 2022   The weather was 👌👌👌 Sunny and warm, just the way I like it! Colourfull foodtrucks       The star tower was open to the revelers   '   This year Helsinki pride park event had 70 000- 80 000 participants. Views from Kaivopuisto to the sea The rainbow families had also organized a lot of programs for the children.  For example, the water games looked so refreshing in the heat that they could have been available for adults as well!   The seagull also participated in the festive fun   I think the party was very successful and well organized.  The only thing I missed was the live music performances.

Punch up, resistance and glitter

Kuva
Punch up for the first time on the stage of the National Theater  and my first Punch up resistance and glitter show.   It's a little hard to describe what Punch up is.  It is performing art, a combination of drag, stand up and burlesque. Punch up was awarded as the theater work of 2021.     This is burlesque. Tassels on the buttocks, awesome!   At the beginning of the show I was a little confused.  I had never seen anything like it. I wonder if this is bullshit or great art.  Since I had a great time, I decided that it doesn't matter! The rest of the audience also enjoyed themselves, I've never seen anything like it in the National Theater, let alone anywhere else. The audience whistled, shouted, stamped their feet.  It felt like I had come home.  Sorry, I dont't know artists name or characters name but impressing!   I also don't have picture of show hosts/stand up artists Jamie Mac Donald and Juuso Kekkonen ,  but they...

(Drag)King Bingo!

Kuva
My first drag king bingo! I have allways wanted to participate to drag and for my suprise it was a drag king bingo. I like the idea that rainbow people are doing the tradiotional things but much more funnier than majority. Drag artist's were Kristiina Puukko aka Tom of Puukko and Minna Kivelä aka Klude. They manged to crate hilarious and boisterous atmosphere, the interaction with the audience was amazing!                                           The coupon cost 5 euros. I didn't win anything but it was also my own fault.                                         The audience was also rewarded for false shouts and participation.                           ...
